Each of the appealing yellow flower head is composed of about 1000s of seeds surrounded by the big petals and it is the presence of these seeds in the sunflower that accounts for sunflower oil industry. The journey from seeds to oil is an elaborative one that begins with cleaning of seeds, de-hulling, grinding, pressing, solvent extraction and refining of the oil. But an easier way is to simply extract the oil from sunflower seeds through expeller or cold pressing process that eliminates the need for chemical solvents and offers better health by retaining more nutrients as compared to the refined oil that undergoes chemical treatment.
